National DAFNE User website

On July 28th a group of 25 DAFNE graduates met in Sheffield to discuss ways to produce a DAFNE user website. This differed from the existing site in that it would be primarily driven by DAFNE graduates rather than the DAFNE Central NHS team.

This site is now live and online. Its purpose is to provide DAFNE graduates with ongoing support after they have completed the course. It also provide information about DAFNE for prospective candidates, friends, family and the medical profession

current content includes:

  • An online DAFNE handbook with course information
  • an online Blood Sugar Diary
  • user forums to discuss DAFNE issues.
  • a forum to ask questions the DAFNE medical team.

There are a whole host of other ideas being worked on, but the ones above are the first to be implemented

The purpose of the website is also to promote DAFNE. Currently only 10% of the UK have access to DAFNE and 9,800 people out of an estimated potential 200,000 have undertaken the course. This needs to change and the DAFNE central team need users help to make it happen. Far too many PCT's and physicans are resisting the idea of DAFNE for reasons not completely known. Again this MUST change as many, many diabetics have not had a chance to experience the benefits.
